Language Acquisition Poll Reflection
Hi Everyone! Here are the results from my last poll blogpost.
As you can see, “All of the Above” was polled as being the best description for describing “Language Acquisition”, but it is NOT the best answer. Language Acquisition as described by Krashen:
“Acquisition requires meaningful interaction in the target language – natural communication – in which speakers are concerned not with the form of their utterances but with the messages they are conveying and understanding…Language acquisition does not require extensive use of conscious grammatical rules, and does not require tedious drill.” Stephen Krashen
Language Acquisition is not direct teaching, it not a vocabulary list, but is gaining language skills under natural circumstances. Acquisition is more like experiencing language and less like learning a language–the difference is consciousness. The best answer is then best described in the poll as “Learning language through authentic experiences.”
